Yesterday in his talk Matt shared a couple pictures of Hayden during his early first season. It was 2006 and Hayden was five years old, Carson was three, and Bailey was two, just a bit too young to actually play. They were all so little!
The point Matt made with this picture is that when Hayden was first playing soccer he was unsure about what to do… where to run. Matt was the coach but also his father, so if Hayden wanted direction he knew he could look to his dad and find it. Sometimes, his dad was actually on the field with him, walking him in the right direction. Christians also have that exact same luxury… when we don’t know what to do, we can stand on our identity in Christ, look to the Father, and He’ll provide direction for our lives.
I couldn’t resist going through the CD myself and looking at old pictures, taken the first year we were in the Army.
Funny story about our sweet little carson. He has always preferred to be in the background, quiet, not in the spotlight. For some reason, wearying the jersey made him feel like he stood out. I would say he felt as nervous in his jersey as someone with a fear of speaking in public felt about standing in front of a crowd and speaking with a microphone.
And every kid’s favorite part of soccer: THE SNACK!!
